I have read 3 other novels from this author and this one seems the most amateur for me. It is almost as if the author didn't write this novel at all or didn't care to execute it well.Let me start by saying that I really wanted to like this book because the opening started out great. I was invested in the characters and their situation. The beginning was well written and the pacing was on point.
But the story just went downhill after that point.
The storyline was slow, mundane and at times just flat out unbelievable.
***spoiler alert***
Case in point, when Liam sees Ebony after 15 years, he just walks right up to her, grabs her butt and kisses her. Huh? I get that his feelings may have remained for her after all those years but the nerve. He doesn't stop to think if Ebony was possibly married or if she was over him after his 15 year absence.
also, the plot twist just didn't do it for me. Saffron and Pierre finding out that Ebony's estranged father is also Pierre's estranged father? Uhh no.
I just couldn't read any further after that point. There wasn't any real conflict in this book. The book opens with the issue of Liam's parents not accepting Ebony because she's black. That issue is literally resolved within 2 minutes. Now, I stopped reading 70% into the book. So it is possible that the author brought it up after that mark but at that point, why bother? The book should be winding down after the 75% mark.
While I loved Ebony and Liam's sweet disposition to each other, a story can't progress solely on intimate moments; which was honestly the majority of this book.
The characters while lively, had no real depth to them and, with the exception of Papa Walt, acted like a bunch of teenagers.
No conflict, unbelievable characters and bad writing all make for a bad story in my opinion which is why I decided to return it.
I really hope this will be the last novel like this from Ms. Frierson.

More Than a Summer Love edition by Savannah J Frierson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
What a great story. You won't be disappointed. You never know who you love. Hope there is a story about big brother Ashton
This is such a great read. While other authors get lost in tangential story lines, Savannah delivers a great love story.
This book has so many layers, so many deep characters that could make the characters live on in many more books. Beverly Jenkins has that gift, sharing lives across more than one person's book life. I will look for a young Saffron, or a young Papa Walt! Thanks.
Ebony so much and family loved them. Everyone came together and let the bad things in the past n poo t stop them from loving each other.
Not my favorite from the author. I struggled through this one. It picked up after a slow start but I am more partial towards Being Plumville. That book reigns supreme still. I wished Liam and Ebony's summer camp was more developed and their reunion at the fair. It seemed rushed and not developed as well. Who kisses someone 15 years later like that? Just not believable... how'd Ebony have a fiancé but still only had Liam as her only partner--again far-fetched.
I found this to be a pleasant story with just the right amount of twists and turns and humor to make it very interesting and enjoyable.
Liam and Ebony met at summer camp as teenagers and fell in love. They went their separate ways, never really forgetting each other. When they ran into each other, fifteen years later, it was as if they never left.
A charming love story with a beautiful ending..
I really enjoyed this book...started a little slow...but moved along quite elegantly...so beautiful and poignant.....so tasty and good...I could almost taste the shrimp and grits...like low country South Carolina....could see Charleston in the words...and Liam is one of the most romantic male characters I have ever come across....such a good soul...loved Ebony from the day they met...the other supporting characters makes the story wholesome and entertaining...Saffron and Pierre needs a book of their own...what a storyline...Savannah can just let that write itself....wow
